Privacy Policy

Effective August 4, 2026

Mochi is an AI-assisted Japanese-learning app operated by Tetsuya Maeda under the MaePace brand. This policy explains what information Mochi processes, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

Information we process

  • Account information: a Firebase user identifier and information your Apple or Google sign-in provider makes available, such as your name and email address.
  • Learning information: preferences, saved vocabulary and review progress, memories or upcoming events you approve for Mochi to remember, daily stamps, and companion relationship progress. A privacy-minimized snapshot is synchronized so this information can follow your account across devices.
  • Conversation and audio content: text you submit and, when you use voice features, audio and transcriptions are processed to provide AI conversation, speech, readings, and learning feedback. Full conversations and raw audio are not retained in Mochi's server-side operational ledger. Conversation history is stored on your device unless you remove it.
  • Purchase information: Apple-signed transaction and subscription information, product identifiers, entitlement status, and opaque account tokens used to verify and restore Mochi Plus access.
  • Device and security information: an app installation identifier, App Attest and DeviceCheck proof, app version, assertion counters, and privacy-minimized security identifiers used to prevent replay, abuse, and duplicate introductory access.
  • Operational information: request route, status, latency, bounded usage counts, and sanitized error categories. Mochi does not include conversation content, raw account identifiers, or bearer tokens in operational logs.

How we use information

We use this information to authenticate your account, synchronize learning progress, personalize learning, generate AI responses and speech, verify purchases, protect the service, enforce usage limits, diagnose failures, and operate Mochi. Mochi only uses memories you approve in order to personalize future conversations.

AI processing

Conversation text, audio, bounded conversation context, and approved relevant memories may be sent to Google Gemini to generate responses, transcriptions, speech, readings, reviews, and vocabulary support. Do not share information you do not want processed for these purposes. Mochi is an AI companion and may produce inaccurate responses.

Service providers and disclosure

Mochi uses Apple for sign-in, device integrity, and App Store purchases. It uses Google services, including Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Run, and Gemini, for account services, secure storage, hosting, and AI processing. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect users and the service.

Mochi does not sell personal information, show third-party advertising, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Storage, retention, and international processing

Your synchronized learning snapshot and account remain until you delete the associated data or account. Upcoming events include a retention deadline and are removed after their follow-up window. Short-lived security challenges, usage ledgers, subscription status, and fraud-prevention records are retained only as needed to provide and protect the service, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Apple may retain purchase records independently. Mochi's production backend is hosted in the United States, and Apple and Google may process information in other countries where they operate.

Your choices

  • View, edit, or delete memories and upcoming events that you approved.
  • Delete individual conversations or all learning data from Settings.
  • Export the learning data available to Mochi on your device as JSON.
  • Delete your Mochi account from Settings after reauthentication.
  • Manage microphone, speech recognition, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.

Deleting a Mochi account removes the synchronized learning snapshot and Firebase account. It does not cancel an App Store subscription, which you manage separately through Apple. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing. Contact us to make a request.

Children

Mochi is designed for people age 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Security

We use transport encryption, short-lived credentials, Apple device-integrity checks, access controls, and privacy-minimized server identifiers. No system is completely secure, but we design Mochi to avoid retaining content where it is not needed.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Mochi changes. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to maepace.mail@gmail.com.
